What do you think of Tom Friedmans idea of splitting syria from the axis by making them an offer on Golan and reentry into the Arab state club that they cant refuse. If syria is removed from the equation and israel is successful against hizbolla, it will be much more difficult to rearm hizbolla.

"That would be as opposed to the wonderful, brilliant influence Clinton had with Arafat back in 2000. Did a beautiful job getting that peace treaty & all. And nobody can say that Clinton didn't put in his utmost effort trying."

As I have pointed out before Clinton's plan was a non-viable(balkanized) state. He should never have gone along with Israel's offer.

I didn't say that Iran has no influence, I believe that the present rhetoric is probably based on wishful thinking since looking at the problem realistically seems to be beyond western and middle eastern abilities. Iran's influence on Hizbullah is there but probably far less than the west believes.
Israel got out of Gaza because Israel's military said that Gaza was a loose-loose situation. Obviously Hamas recognized this and is trying to create a similar situation in the rest of the occupied territories. It is succeeding thanks to Israel's intransigence and the western world's rejection of the elected government of Palestine.
