The ironic thing is the the Lebanese, left to themselves, were never among the 90%. Before the PLO took over & destablized Lebanon, the Israelis called the Blue Line the "good border".

Yeah, the really ironic thing is that Lebanon was the US model for how a ME country should be - multicultural, democractic, allowing both modern hipsters and religious backwards conservatives to live equally, and despite that they are getting blown to smithereens! I understand the idea is to destroy Hezbollah's capabilities, and destroy their ability to strengthen in the future, but the damage done to Israel in the region is going to take decades to overcome.

Someone else pointed out that the main US-Israel foreign policy objective in the region should be somehow convincing the Arabs that it's OK to have a Jewish country next to them. The destruction of everything in Lebanon sure doesn't help that marketing effort.
