pathetic region I sincerely wish that something along the lines of what you envisioned could become reality... but the importance of religion in that region will make this impossible for the foreseeable future. The problem is - again - that what today is Israel in the past was perceived as being part of Dar-al-Islam, and to those who take this seriously, which are an overwhelming majority, the only acceptable option is that the area would be dominated by Islam - with all the consequences, like infidels and "dhimmis" having to submit to extra taxes, etc.etc. The idea is not going to fly.... unless, for some reason we'll enter a historical period when religiosity tends to subside. I think such things do happen.
