I sincerely wish that something along the lines of what you envisioned could become reality... but the importance of religion in that region will make this impossible for the foreseeable future.

The idea is not going to fly

The amazing thing to me is that the idea does not even get discussed.

I would think that an Israel that changed its country name to something with a less Jewish meaning, and that integrated ME Muslims (or non-Muslims) into its society would become less and less unacceptable to the ME Muslim fanatics as the place took on a multi-ethnic appearance, and still had its amazing success relative to the surrounding countries. If the country were over the next 20 years to become 60% Arab by integrating the most educated productive stable Egyptians, Pals, Jordanians, Iraqis, whatever, and still was a resounding economic success and a US ally, one would think the desire to "be like them" would surpass the desire to destroy them, since the "them" would by then consist of 60% people who are the "us", just with different passports.

This also, never gets discussed.

I was amazed a few years ago when Bush hosted Sharon and voiced his support for a Jewish Israel, then two days later hosted the then Iraqi leader and voiced his support for an Iraq where all citizens, ethnicities and religions can live as equals. If Iraq is for all, why not Israel? I immediately wondered about the strangeness of him saying our ally is for the Jewish people, while the place we're rebuilding is for everyone, but no reported broached the subject or anything remotely close to it.
