Jews and Arabs can live in peace, sure. Jews and islamist radicals--no way. The real battle is to separate arab regimes and arab people from the radicals, both shia and sunni. Not an easy task at all. When israel trys to eliminate arabs become nationalist and all hell breaks loose, even if its in their own peronal and the national interest for israel to do so. Can the radical shiaa led by iran separate themselves from what has morphed into anti-semitism? Then perhaps a deal can be struck. SAme with al quaeda and the israel.

No argument that the status of Jews in Arab lands was 2'nd class. My point was that the "wipe them off the map" hatred was not there before. That is linked to the state of Israel, land, and holy places, as well as the power imbalances.

That is true - the Arabs, who seem to be running largely on wounded pride, found losing to those they had been used to despising intolerable. As Bernard Lewis says, losing to the great colonial powers was bad enough. But a gang of contemptible Jews? unbearable!

However, my argument is that you are dealing w/ith "wipe them off the map" hatred, your days of compromise are over. The choices are now fight or run. Attempts to appease such hatred only makes things worse.
