You can get awfully close.

Not with things that involve other human beings engaged in complex activities.

Writing it off as impossible IMO leaves folks with an excuse not to try.

In my job there are very bright lines to keep me from trying to fool myself into thinking that I can be unbiased. I'm not allowed to be in a situation where my personal interests conflict with those of my clients. Period. For things where it's inevitable, like getting paid, allocating my time, dealing with sexual attraction, there are even brighter lines.

For example, I am not allowed to contact a judge about a case directly, ever, without bringing in the other side. I am not allowed to appear in front of a judge with whom I have a personal relationship of any form except friendship, and even close friendship is prohibited.

In your former profession, you were prohibited from receiving even coffee and donuts from a vendor, although perhaps that rule wasn't enforced.

William Penn: Justice is justly presented blind because she sees no difference in the parties concerned.

Isn't Penn saying that the Goddess of Justice is always impartial and objective? If so, then isn't the blindfold a symbol of her skill and strength to always be objective?
