Getting to reliable narratives is very, very difficult. We agree.

Historians' discussions of the methodology for the use of personal journals is a classic example.

Lane3's plain vanilla governmental fact finding is generally considered more reliable, especially when it's about routine matters. But some governments lie

If government is made up of people, all government will lie to some extent - some more than others - depending on circumstances.

Your arguments here will go nowhere if you do not make the assumption that there exist "truth" and your objective is to determine how far each side is from the truth.

IMO your problem is that you do not believe in the existence of "truth". You think it is all about how one looks at things from thier particular perspective.

From my pov, the problem is that we can not define "truth", but a lot of people will know it when they see it.

That is why religion is so powerful. They declare that God is "truth".

For me that is not good enough. This does not I mean I do not believe in God, but I am not going to take anyone's word for it. If God has something to say, he will have to say it in more than one language and say it where a lot more people can hear it.

Indeed God and "truth" may be one and the same thing. There may be good reason why God does not want to step into this mess and reveal itself right now. In the mean time we have to go on and search for the truth on our own.

To me truth has to exist. It just may be in the form of a very complex regression analysis in mathematics (mathematics that we have yet to develop). It is the point where there is the most benefit for all. And the problem to solved is to find the point where we are and get to the point where it is most beneficial for all.

But, if you don't believe in some form of truth, you are not going anywhere.
