You state a very real danger of producing more terrorists in the future than are killed. Iraq did that to some degree. Lebanon doesnt have to be that way if hizbolla is materially weakened and aid for rebuilding pours in. In iraq, the terrorists blew up the aid to prevent progress. I dont think the shiaa will do what the al quaeda did. I have hope that this shock to the system can make lebanon a positive example for rebuilding that can then be extended to the decimated gaza and west bank. I am being an optimist here and i understand things can go the other way. Perhaps you can see my point if only as a possiblity.

Israel and we HAVE a clearly defined objective - the destruction of Hezbollah in Lebanon. The problem is, this is an impossible objective, as they breed 10 Hezbollah for every one they kill, with the misery and destruction that is "collateral damage". All those corpses and injured are related to people, friends with others, and all Lebanese.

Actually, the clearly defined objective is the DISARMING of Hizbullah, and forcing them to submit to the sovereign control of the Lebanese government and stop acting as if they are a sovereign nation of their own.

Hizbullah, as a political party, has a right to exist, SO LONG AS IT UPHOLDS AND SWEARS LOYALTY TO THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS.

But they don't have a right to conduct foreign policy unilaterally in a manner that directly undermines the authority of the Lebanese government.

It's a basic flaw in the "war on terror", of using the military to fight a tactic. We should be attacking the IDEAS behind the support for the terrorists. Instead, our responses actually recruit and rally support for the terrorists.

Which begs the question why hizbullah and other Islamic fanatics are not admonished to follow the same tactics. Fight your battles with the pen, and not the sword. IF they want economic, social, and political change, then work for it PEACEFULLY, not by proclaiming an agenda of carrying out wars of extermination with their country's neighbors.

I agree 100%. Look at the world since Bush took office and he started his so called "war on terror". The "terrorists" are winning and have multiplied by a huge factor thanks to Bush.

What is one supposed to do with enemy combatants during wartime? Take them out to lunch? Seriously, I heard this line hundreds of times, and I do not understand it.

What did Allies do with kamikaze pilots during WWII? And in Europe, did they breed 10 new nazis for every one they killed? How much sense does this make?
