Gold?

As the native Americans are attributed as having said, "yellow rock that make white man crazy."

If gold were an alternative "store of value" would it not be preferable to have the metal is small coins or bits so it can be exchanged?

A big gun, food supply, and land seem much more a realistic "store of value" in hard times, no?
