Rice really is incompetent and ignorant about many important facets of her job. Before 9-11, she didn't even mention terrorism once and according to Clarke, didn't know who Al Qaida was. She was National Security Advisor then. Now, she is responsible for settling a huge problem in the Middle East, but has practically no experience in that region whatsoever. She was and always has been a expert in one subject, Russian Studies, in other words the old Soviet Union and Cold War. All of which is gone. She was recruited by Bush Sr. and put on the board of Chevron. She then became a college provost at Stanford, living in an Ivory Tower. She has very little experience in the real world of tough war-time diplomacy, especially in the Middle East. So how did she get her job? Race, sex and loyalty.
