Bushies could drop gasoline prices 50 cents in one day.

You live in an interesting fantasy world.

The oil companies don't make a profit of 50 cents per gallon of gasoline.

The government could reduce gasoline prices by slashing gasoline taxes. In every year after 1982 combined state and local gasoline taxes brought in more money than the oil company profits.

And these taxes take in over 45 cents per gallon

I am not opposed to cutting gasoline taxes, but a reasonable argument can be made against the idea. Also it can't happen overnight or just on Bush's order.

Congress grilled the Oil CEO's 3-4 months ago and gas prices plunged the day after. There's your solid proof.

You might want to look up the definitions of "solid" and "proof".

Even if there was no other explanation for the lowering of prices it wouldn't be proof or solid evidence at all. But there are other explanations. Oil companies shifted more of their production to gasoline (diesel prices went up as more of the production went to gasoline, but the cost you pay because of higher diesel prices is indirect and you probably didn't notice it), also some environmental requirements were temporarily loosened, lowering oil companies costs.

Once again - Please define price gouging.
