Hi geode00; Re: "Actually Dems are the: save the unions, save Medicare/Medicaid, save SS, increase minimum wage into a working wage, provide help for the working class party. Republicans are the: steal for the top 1/10th of 1% by appealing to the stupid side of the working class - gods/guns/gays."

The majority of the working class aren't unionized. A substantial number of them hate unions. They're not nearly as interested in Medicare/Medicaid as you think, and a lot of them don't think SS is ever going to be there for them. Fewer of them want a higher minimum wage because it means that all their wages get compressed together.

The reason you can't figure out the working class is because you are so far separated from it that you cannot understand the things that actually enter into their daily lives.

It is the Republicans that are in favor of lowering taxes on cigarettes and beer. It is the Democrats who want to raise taxes on gasoline. It is the Democrats who make trouble for working men with OSHA and EPA regulations, not the Republicans.

The Democrats are all about bigger government, but the working class experience with government is almost entirely negative. It is big government that puts them in jail for child abuse after they publicly swat their out of control children. It's big government that taxes them and spends the money on crap sculpture in public squares or "piss Christ" art.

But where white collar Democrats lose the most votes with working class people is by the universal white collar Democrat attitude best exemplified by "Republicans are the: steal for the top 1/10th of 1% by appealing to the stupid side of the working class - gods/guns/gays."

Re: "There are lots of working class people who hate Republicans and will for the rest of their lives."

And vice versa. It's all about numbers. Half the blue collar shops in this country have Rush Limbaugh playing in the background. Approximately zero percent of them have left wing commentators.
