Many poor and middle class whites vote Republican because they perceive a Democratic bias in favor of non-whites, e.g. the solid Democratic support for racial preferences, regardless of socioeconomic status.

This is not "hate of others." Rather, it is "hate of injustice." It is also a pocket book issue. If your white kid does not make it into a good school because a non-white kid with lower scores took his place, you get angry. If the non-white kid comes from a family at a higher socioeconomic level than yours, you become a lifetime Republican regardless of other issues.

Johnson was sure that, after passage of the Civil Rights Bill, the Dems lost the South. Nothing is clearer than that as to what the core of the Republican party really looks like...it's just PC to say it's because of pocketbook issues.

That's a crock. Dems are better managers of the country's finances than Republicans. The difference between Reagan-Bush-Bush and Clinton couldn't be more stark.

Clinton/Gore reduced the deficit every year until they finally made a surplus. We all know what happened to that fiscally conservative philosophy once Bush The Profligate Spendthrift came into office.

It's racism that primarily drives the Republican party and hate for gays and for lots of other groups.
