It's a very impressive ramp for a new part. "a little less than 10 weeks" was reported elsewhere as 7 weeks.

Speaking at a launch event for the chip at the company's Santa Clara, Calif., headquarters, Otellini said when the Pentium processor launched years ago it took one year to ship 1 million units. "We will ship 1 million processors in a little less than 10 weeks," he said.

So Intel will have about 2% of their entire chip volume be the new products in Q3. The remainder of the market share (76%) get to compete with the newly priced AMD offerings. Not sure I would be bragging about a 2% ramp. Sounds impressive, though.

Cravey.

Intel said it took one year to ship 100 million Pentium chips. It will take seven weeks to ship 100 million Core 2 Duos.
eweek.com

So what is it?
1 million in 10 weeks. Seems very supply limited.
100 Million in 7 weeks. Doesn't seem possible if they will exit 2006 with ~30% Core 2 Duo in the product mix.

Isn't that only like 2% marketshare for a quarter?

Q3 will be over in 8 weeks.

Doesn't this mean Core 2 Duo will only ship enough to satisfy some 2% of marketshare in Q3?

What am I missing?

Edit: I see Cravey came to the same conclusion...

Hmmm, 1 million processors in a little less than 10 weeks
sounds like the banners in the lunchrooms of the fabs producing these things will be in 10 point Times Roman type.

Remember "Elmer" getting all exciting about 2 million Coppermines a week from Chandler, AZ? And that was an 8" fab.
