You are correct. I think O'Reilly is a pretty good guy. He certainly can make contentiousness fun.

HE is 110% wrong on the energy companies. They are making profits because the price of oil is going up. They mostly sell at a fixed markup. If they add 10% to their costs if the costs go up their total profit goes up, not the percentage.

They also own some reserves and on those their cost is lower, but they have no incentive to sell any oil below the market cost, and they use the replacement cost to calculate cost for determining selling price. On these sales their total profit is higher.

With O'Reilly's mentality, we would have to sell stock at a reasonable profit instead of the market price. Wait whats next? Nobody will be allowed to sell at a loss, and everyone is mandated to make a certain percentage. Lets use O'Reilly's logic to set up a socialized stock market and see how much money it attracts.
