Oh, I agree. But I've assumed that's always the case. And the reason one needs foreign policy experts who've lived in the region, know the cultures, histories, and the like.

I don't think the problem, however, lies there. Rather, at least at the moment, it lies in the US addiction to militarism as a solution to all things difficult in foreign policy.

If you go back to what Bin Ladin wanted from us... to leave all Arab lands. That was his reason for all the acts of terror he initiated... from the bombing of the barracks to the Cole..

Leave the land of the Muslims, you infidels....
