Basically such bases would allow the exertion of military might and who cares what the natives think.

Fortunately we have term limits. Not that the next administration would dismantle everything, but there would be changes.

Historically, occupied natives have been to able to turn the tables on the occupiers. The Chinese did it to the Mongols.

I think you can kind of say the same thing about the Vikings in Ireland.

More recently, the Germans did it to us. The Germans had to suck it up in the beginning by getting zigarettes and Hershey bars for doing small favors. I don't think a pack of Marlboros is going to get you very much in Germany today.

The point being, there are different ways to making things better. You don't have to use force. You have to be intelligent and you have to be creative.

Also incredibly short-sighted in all directions of history - smacks of the crusader castles in the old Holy Land, and will inevitably breed further resentment, and not be continuable for many years, . . .
