What's going to work is the international community saying "enough is enough" and we're not going to be carried over the brink with you" (meaning we're going to have to officially intervene under Chapter VII of the UN Charter to separate the combatting parties).

And it's going to mean getting tough with Israel over final status talks and the fate of Jerusalem (it will probably have to be declared an open city and the capital of both Israel and Palestine) in order to appease the extremists on both sides.

But before that happens, the Palestinians are going to have to decide whether they peace and can adher to democratic principles. Because it would just be ludicrous for the UN to get involved in creating a totalitarian state in Palestine.

That's what I see, and have seen, as being the only solution outside of a sudden Palestinian revelation to take the current Israeli offer and just run with it.
