Its not an intellectual model.

Someone pissed by an American made weapon blowing up their house isn't likely to care about the justification. You give them a reason and many will be unconvinced, but its not like the reason is going to turn them against you. You get a much bigger visceral and emotional reaction to blast, shrapnel, and blood than you do to "fighting against Hezbollah is part of the war on terror".
