When people have been arguing and fighting for so long, the decent and wise human being takes whatever opening there is. He does not bash the other side with a rock.

The US and Israel had a chance to see Hamas become an actual government. Instead, they immediately began to take it apart and punish the people who had voted in a democratic election. Whatever happened to the conflict in Ireland?

People see this kind of hypocrisy and general nastiness and react accordingly. If your neighbor punished you for voting for Bush, you'd react as well.

The US and Israeli rightwing governments are acting like children. Bush refuses to talk to the other side, Rice does her horrific fake diplomatic slow dance while people are dying and both governments whine openly in public about how the other side is 100% at fault.

This isn't diplomacy. This is a tantrum.
