I am not defending the tactic of using surrogates at all. But I am pleased to see a Rove-style attempt to smear Democrats with "weak on terror" labels at every turn deflected. It's the only chance for a rational debate on the issues this fall. If more people stood up and said can that crap and talk about something the voters want to hear about, the level of campaigns would improve. Surrogate shenanigans also detract from that debate. But they shouldn't be married with images of terrorists when they have nothing to do with terrorism or that issue, IMHO.
