That is true, but the current beneficiaries are depending on the money flow from the younger people. So if you stop the money flow, then no one will pay to the current beneficiaries. that means they will have to reduce the benefit for the current beneficiaries too.

Not sure why you say one cannot invest in hedge fund? Small individual investors can, but hedge funds do not want their petty money<g>. All the public/private pension funds have a category called "alternative investment", which is to invest in private, mostly in hedge funds, now they attribute as high as 10% of the total portfolio into it. So people who have pension do not even know some of their money is invested in hedge funds.
