The problem is that Bush is not an intellectual, introspective type of personality.

And I think you should give the guy far more credit than you do..

Read Woodward's book "Plan of Attack" and you'll see just how introspective Bush was, and how much the decision to go to war weighed upon his conscience.

You'll also see how meticulous Rumsfeld was in asking pointed questions of his generals and demanding the greatest performance from them. (which made many of them hate him)..

Bob Woodward is not considered to be a "republican".. (He's one of the folks who uncovered the Watergate Scandal).

Bush is a Christian. I like to consider myself a Christian.. And I do not see anything in his demeanor that could be credibly construed by most sane people as his being engaged in attempting religious "evangelism by war".

There are definitely some Christians who like to spew anti-Islamic diatribes, but heck.. the Arabs refer to all Christians as "infidels" and "dhimmis", so what should one expect? They return insult for insult.. A very human emotion.

But people, like myself, understand that religions are created by men as a means of interpreting how they believe God wants them to live. And we know that Christianity, as a religion, has the ability to be just as intolerant as any other one.

At any rate, I've never felt stronger about the need for separation of church and state

So am I.. So am I.. And you know something? That's why were involved in fighting Islamo-Fascism.. In order to maintain some kind of secular control over a religion that's prone to foster fanatics and religious xenophobes looking to kill anyone who disagrees with them.

I believe Bush would also be susceptible to the 'it was God's will' mindset. I lost my job...oh, it was God's will....I blew up a country full of Iraqis....oh, it was God's will. We can't have that at a governmental decision-making level. It's a kind of fatalism and a negation of personal responsibility.

Spend some time in Iraq and hear the mortars and rockets exploding around you, all fired by someone who, rather than aiming the things, merely shouted "Allah Ahkbar" (god is great), or "Inshallah" (As God Wills) hoping that the round will find a victim.

The militants live their entire lives along the very values that so frighten you..

So who's the greater threat??
