Regli.. If you want to believe that Syria respects Lebanon's sovereignty and no longer has an internal official policy of claiming that country as part of Syria, that's your right.

But my sister is married to a Lebanese Christian and just managed to escape the crisis there last week in the evacuation.

She'll be happy to tell you how cars with Lebanese license plates are not permitted in Syria and how the Syrian military and intelligence organizations attempted to manipulate and undermine Lebanon's fledgling democracy.

Of course, she'll also tell about the horror the Lebanese people are going through as they are caught in the middle of this regional power struggle between Israel and Syrian/Iranian backed Hizbullah.

As for "Greater Israel", I guess that explains why Israel willingly surrendered the Sinai to Egypt in exchange for a lasting peace agreement.

Are you claiming that because the Syrian Social Nationalist Party is part of the ruling coalition with Baath that "Greater Syria" has now become a Syrian foreign policy objective?

Can you explain why Syria has not established diplomatic relations with the nation it was supposed to be "assisting" in the containing of the civil war in that country?

Do you know the address of the Syrian Embassy in Beirut?

'nough said..

Hawk

BP Shuts Prudhoe Bay Field; 8 Percent of U.S. Output

Aug. 7 (Bloomberg) -- BP Plc said it's shutting the Prudhoe Bay oil field in Alaska, accounting for 8 percent of U.S. output, because of corrosion in a pipeline.

The shutdown of about 400,000 barrels a day at the largest U.S. field will take days to complete and the company doesn't know when production will resume, field operator BP Exploration Alaska Inc. said in a statement through PRNewswire. The pipeline was shut down at 6:30 a.m. Alaskan time Sunday, it said. Oil prices rose as much as 0.3 percent.

The world's second-largest publicly traded oil company is under a U.S. grand jury investigation over an oil spill in Alaska. About 6,400 barrels of oil leaked from a Prudhoe Bay pipeline in March, almost a year after an explosion at a Texas refinery killed 15 workers and led to the biggest fine by U.S. refinery safety regulators.
