This commentary that Israel is "unable" to punish Hezbullah is way off the mark.

Just because Israel has been unable to miraculously destroy an enemy that is well fortified and dug into defensive positions and is using civilians as human body armor, even though the war has now lasted three whole weeks, concluding that therefore Israel is losing to Hizbullah is the kind of peculiar conclusion that only an MSM reporter could jump to.

Let's wait and see a little, shall we?

How would you proceed to punish Hezbollah without escalating this war??????

That's a good question, now isn't it??

It all depends upon how much incentive the countries involved, including Syria and Iran, as well as the international community, have in preventing this war from escalating, now doesn't it?? Does anyone REALLY want to push Israel so far by widening the conflict and risking massive retaliation should Israel find itself overwhelmed?

I certainly haven't seen the Lebanese Army taking any actions against Hizbullah, have you??

I really can't tell you how this is going to end, but I have a hope, and expectation, that it will end with a UN force in Lebanon separating the parties and extreme pressure upon the Lebanese to bring Hizbullah under control and disarm it.

Again.. I don't care if Hizbullah is a political participant in Lebanon, so long as they do not have the military means to conduct their own foriegn policy..

Ultimately this is probably going to be a case of the Lebanese people reaching a point of desperation that Hizbullah finds itself at the point of diminishing political returns.

And of course, that will sad and tragic but I don't think the Israeli can accept, nor can we expect them to, any result that has Hizbullah remaining in a position to further attack their country.

Israel has already stated their conditions for a cease-fire and withdrawal from Lebanon. And they have a tremendous amount of legitimacy in that Hizbullah attacked Israel and is an acknowledged terrorist group that will not submit to Lebanon's sovereignty.

As for how I would proceed? You mean if I could wave my magic wand? Or if I were GWB? Or if I were the UN SecGen? Or if I were Olmert? Or if I were Nasrallah?

My personal perspective is that the only way this will be resolved is a UN binding resolution, with the necessary UN military force capable of implementing it.

And I think we're going to have to have a real push in the UN for the same thing to happen in separating Palestine and Israel.

Lebanon's at a real risk of becoming a failed state (once again) and if they can't maintain sovereign control over their own borders in order to prevent such conflicts from occurring, then someone has to do it for them..

And I'd prefer that not be Israel.
