The US can torture people, secretly arrest people and detain them as it sees fit without any respect for their rights. The US can invade countries and kill people at will and bomb anybody it likes to bomb any day of the week without regard for human rights or international law -- but only because it has the world's most deadly military capability. Might makes right is the order the US has tried to usher in to world affairs. Supreme arrogance. The UN was created to enable the world to move beyond this sort of thugery. The approach the US now takes is a direct reflection of the character of the people in the Bush Administration.

We were once a proud nation, providing leadership to the world. Now we are just the biggest bully -- a pale shadow of our former selves.
