If it could be proved that the drilling did effect Iraqi oil fields and perhaps actually caused some of the Iraqi oil to move in to Kuwaiti territory than it would have been reasonable for Kuwait to be somewhat accommodating and to come to some agreement, but as far as I know it hasn't been proven

If it is a shared field and you suck down one side, it sucks down the entire field. You don't need to be a genius to figure that out.

Look, I'm not saying that Saddam was the most reasonable and diligent individual in building a case and trying all the alternatives. What I am saying is that history is littered with such wars over resources. Nothing new.

I'm well aware of that, and in retrospect it was unfortunate.

No kidding. Indeed, Saddam might have settled his problem if his invasion had shown more restraint, such as capturing the oil fields only, then discussing their return if Kuwait would agree to better terms. I'm not saying Saddam was overly smart by any means.

What if Kuwait was drilling diagonally? That was what they were doing. To PO Saddam more, they were selling cheap oil over their quota. There were many things that triggered the war including a green light from the US.

What are you talking about? Kuwait was drilling diagonally. If Mexico was doing that to the U.S., Bush, that big oil prostitute, would have turned Mexico into a dead zone in no time flat... the hypocritical times we live in... sheesh...
