A number of countries have partitioned along ethnic lines. Its not always the best solution, and its usually difficult, but sometimes even if it is a bad choice its still the best choice. Sure, sometimes it makes sense to split countries along ethnic lines, as in Singapore and Malaysia splitting up, or Czech Republic and Slovakia splitting up. Given that Israel has been in some state of war for 60+ years and is nowhere near getting out of that state for the forseeable future, we can conclude that it was probably not one of those "good idea" cases....
