I don't think you can conclude anything of the sort. Israel has been shifting between hot wars and cold wars for almost 60 years, but if the Palestinians and Israelis tried to make one joint country it might have been civil war for 60 years.

Sure, sometimes it makes sense to split countries along ethnic lines, as in Singapore and Malaysia splitting up, or Czech Republic and Slovakia splitting up. Given that Israel has been in some state of war for 60+ years and is nowhere near getting out of that state for the forseeable future, we can conclude that it was probably not one of those "good idea" cases....

It's the only case where one side decided not to settle its refugees, but put them in permanent camps so they could remain stateless refugees for generations, paid for the by UN dole.

No other population had that "advantage."
