I never see anyone saying that Jayson Blairs opinions or statements where the offical policy of the times, or that any slant he put on stories was THE NYT slant. The complaint is more along the lines that the NYT was sloppy to let him do what he did.

Even if Blair was portrayed as if he had been the official voice of the NYT does one person making such a sloppy mistake (or perhaps dishonest statement) make it ok for geode, or for you to do the same thing? If they are wrong why sink to their level?

Yes, when a paper that is purportedly the best daily newspaper in America, the one that sets the framework for the rest of the news media, not only hires a serial liar as a reporter but fails to catch on after dozens of faked stories, something is wrong there. The internal NYT verdict was that the management which had favored Jayson Blair was wrong, and the management was out.

There is an embarrassment of riches that conservatives can point to back their claims that the NYT editorializes all over the news pages. How about those 43 stories Howell Raines chose to run on the Master's Tournament not admitting women?
