The evidence is mounting that we are heading for a serious shortfall of oil as consumption from the "developing" world grows and as the "developed" world shows no sign of curtailing its consumption, while supplies are pushed to the point of collapse and the politics of oil drive us toward wars that increase global instability. Higher oil prices will depress economic growth while fanning inflation. $200 a barrel no longer seems so far away. This will stall our economy and cause a panic drop in short rates and soaring long rates as the dollar drops like a rock. Net/net -- a bad case of stagflation.
