It is very important talk to potential enemies. Talking costs us nothing and byu talking we are able to get valuable intel and find common ground. Nixon, Reagan, Bush Sr., James Baker, all the best Republican statesmen all did this. Bushies made a huge blunder by delivering the simple-minded "Axis Of Evil" speech then refusing to talk to any of our potential foes. Iran and North Korea would be far less dangerous to us now if Bushies had done some basic diplomacy. They also could have avoided the invasion of Iraq this way, but they didn't want to avoid it.
