I don't know why they would use the rockets against the tank anyway since apparently they do have anti-tank missiles and a lot of RPGs. Maybe none of the missiles were available or they where out of range of both the missiles and the RPGs.

The thinnest part of a tank's armor are on top and the bottom.

Hit any tank from the top with a direct hit from a Katyusha, and you're likely to score a kill, or at least inflict casualties.
