koan, elections are rigged to give no real choice, it is a fictional
democracy. No outsider has a chance against the powers that be.

RE is right, forget it and work for your success regardless of
who they put in.

OT: I understand the sentiment.

I started to vote as soon as I became old enough, but couldn't bring myself to vote for any of the mainstream parties until I was well into my 30s.

I've still never voted for a candidate who won at the provincial or national level.

Elections themselves may be fair and honest, but the real problems with the American political system lie in candidate selection, which is largely controlled by money, lust for power, and entrenched interests. Add in the scandalous and unconscionable manner in which electoral districts are gerrymandered by sitting politicians, and you have an ugly situation. No wonder voter turnout continues to decrease.

How many incumbents get defeated in primaries, much less elections?

How many members of your Senate and House of Representatives are not very rich?

This is not to say we don't have problems with our political systems here in Canada, but my mind boggles when I see what you guys are dealing with.

I agree that democracy is the greatest governmental institution that gives the limited choices that are most deserving of highest contempt of the sentient mind. In short Hobbes choices are democracy, other forms of government offer even fewer.

The problem lies in the implementation, which is infinitely variable as well as infinitely arguable. All that is clear is that anyone most desirous of serving in government in general should never be allowed to do it.
