What's to spin? The quoted passage doesn't even mention model portfolios. Given the very clear statement I quoted from the same issue, the intent was clear. The bulletin was unclear, given that subscribers may have not noticed Brinker's past practice relative to model portfolios, but in the November issue, the only way a model portfolio follower could have entered into it at that time was with full knowledge that they were deviating from the model portfolio.
