That's a personal decision. He clearly thinks the market is gonna get smoked and take the miners with it.

Personally, I ride with my 100% core miner position, have shorts on margin to both make money and hedge my miners and, if miners get smoked hard, I buy more miners on dips with short profits.

That way I never "lose" my position in a bull market and I get LT cap gains treatment on my core.

It's a matter of style. I suspect TJ's style works for more other people than my style does, but there are many ways to skin a cat.
