Thanks for that article.

Looking at what Hizbullah has achieved:
1)Around 90% of the Lebanese population supports Hizbullah's rocket attacks on Israel and their "resistance fight"
2) Hizbullah, Syria, and Iran were successful in challenging the US and Israel. Israel's attempt to disarm Hizbullah and thereby give a green light for an invasion of Iran by the US hasn't worked(luckily for the US)
3) Egypt and Jordan's rôle in the ME as moderates has been weakened.
4) Iran has avoided an attack by the US.
5) Hizbullah is fully accepted in Lebanese political and social life.
The Christian Maronite Church, the Sunni prime minister and others support cooperation with Hizbullah.

Sounds like a Phyrric victory for Israel at best.

So Israel's policy of trying to split the Lebanese population away from Hizbullah by saying(through military action) that if you want air conditioning, jobs, motor roads, etc. then get rid of Hizbullah hasn't worked.

Compare Sharon's policy vis á vis Hizbullah to the present regime's. Sharon answered Hizbullah attacks with low key attacks on Hizbullah. Sharon also allowed Hizbullah to re-arm after 2000 sowing the seeds for the present conflict.
This regime attacked in strength and began to sink in the Lebanese quicksand. Perhaps the French and The UN can save the situation for Israel.
