Putting you in charge

I came close to being "employed" by Novell when Eric referred my resume to a Stewart Nelson protege. In Silicon Valley that would have meant a hire. But with Novell the good ole Mormon boys gotta check you out! Any corporate political threats get flushed. Any uncertainties and its no sir. Hell the changling wing even moved the company to Boston to get away from the bureaucrats but the changlings have always been in a minority.

Nobody from the inside can straighten Novell out. Eric and the guy the MESSman brought back tried in their different ways with the existing crew. The people that have their hands on that cash stash are the "judges". Verdict: No chcha change until we spend the cash.

Only a takeover and a complete levelling of the management structure will do the trick. By then you will be too old to work for the company.

Stone bought Ximian. This was the beginning of his plan to add a face to Novell as well as bring in young open source talent to rub off on people. What people don't know is that there *was* a grand plan to use Ximian as the Linux desktop, Suse as the Os and build/buy the entire stack (from within Novell and outside). Stone had made the decision to use GNOME and messman reversed it for fear he would alienate the germans. The plan was there, messman and the board stopped it.
