Peter, The French fleet did help America by blockading the English ships from sailing into a couple of our harbors. Lafayette came to help with his money and some troops but he did that on his own without sanction of the French Royals. As I recall, there was one group of Germans, I think Prussians, that fought with our troops on the battle fields.

Those other countries that aided Britain, were fearful of the fall of the concept of royalty which would put all of them out of business. The French monarchy found that out from the blade of a guillotine.
