Great story but, given the cost alternatives, one would think that they would be looking at ways of getting significant results in a few months rather than 3 years.

That article was published in the Anchorage paper today.

Seems to me that the researchers should be focusing on ways of protecting the battery from the sort of violent earthquakes we have here in Alaska. The 1964 quake destroyed oil tanks in places like Seward, and a succession of tsunamis splashed flaming oil around the waterfront and industrial areas. What will happen to these VRB gizmos in an earthquake?
