I truly wish that Israel had shown great restraint in dealing with the kidnapped soldiers, simply because that solution has not be tried much by Israel. Israel could have won a significant public relations battle with careful handling, and bolstered the cause of moderate Arab voices. Instead...

Agree 100%.

Not to mention that if they had shown restraint in the beginning for for good sound political reasons, that would not have foreclosed the option of war later on, if it came to that. And, one would hope, a better planned war than the one that just occurred. As it is, the inflamed people against them for no good reason. The only "good", if it can be called that, to come out of this is that the extent of Hezbollah's bunkers and weaponry has now become public knowledge, and, supporters of Israel hope, Israel can come up with better plans for the future war that will inevitably come if Hezbollah is not disarmed.
