IMO, both the USA & Israel are currently in the unique position of having sufficient military might that they can afford diplomacy. So many pundits harp on the claim that showing weakness is death in the ME. I don't buy that when you clearly have the military backup that Israel or the USA have. Instead, that enables you to talk softly, and reach reasonable solutions. Everyone understands your capabilities. I, and others, like to point out that the Arabs lack Ghandi's, but there are not many elected Israeli politicians in that class either.
