I just said call hizbolla insurgents rather than terrorists and the debate takes a different turn. They clearly were terrorists but have turned into something more within lebanon. You are right that they have also become the forward military arm of iran and that needs to change but its just too simple to lump them together with al quaeda and call them terrorists imho. Yes they may prove me wrong but if that is one of the preconditions for talking, so be it. You said iran can always walk thru that door and negotiate in good faith. Keep in mind the US must do the same. Because of our current support of israel, our past lean toward iraq during that war, and because we are the only country left they really dont have relations with, we need to establish some creds with them too. Do i expect a grand settlement? Not really but one should always do as much as possible to settle differences peacefully. And keep in mind that iranian nationalism trumps reform just as in china. We need to deal with these guys, even the prez.
