I use turmeric powder when I cook indian. Fresh Turmeric I have never used, and only seen in India.

I got it comfirmed from my sis (who runs a restaurant) - one does not use fresh turmeric for cooking, one uses dry turmeric powder for cooking.

Fresh turmeric is sometimes used to help your skin - like you would use Aloe....
