edwin K -- You depress me. How do you get up in the morning.

""Switching to Nuclear is too expensive in the short run. We need it now but no country can be trusted to manage it safely....safe enough for all of us, and not just the poor schmucks who live downwind. The production of the fuel can be mistaken for a bomb....we are not capable of managing nuclear fuel. period. Not that it can't be done...it could if humans could be trusted. It is not a question so much, of technology. We have that mostly, but we cannot be trusted. Human nature.""

France )and probably other countries) went to standard nuclear reactor designs. In the US, every one was different. With standard designs, manuals, procedures, and operator training can be stanardized. The design can be refined. All these benefits help prevent another 3 mile island scenerio.

We must trust ourselves with nuclear fuel and bite the bullet on disposal or radoactive byproducts. Decision processes where everyone can say no and no one can say yes (in any reasonable time period)are totally destructive.

i didn't think it was too pessimistic. we realize the car industry is run to make a product that the public demand. Its nonsense about democrats or republicans mandates for better mileage. you do not see those laws being passed because congress want to remain in washington. higher gas prices will force people to smaller cars or cars with better mileage , same with public transportation. I am not sure $6. is the price it will happen it will happen depending on each persons spendable income.

I loved the buggy, kero lamp, etc. used to go downeast back home decades ago and i am greatful for those memories.g

windpower,, you cannot even get through liberal ma. kennedy and his power has been fighting it for a few years now to avoid running his sunset.
