You're trying to tell me that Saddam was suddenly a convert to fundamentalist Islam after Desert Storm???

I don't buy it. He needed to cover his rear after a humiliating defeat and try and resurrect his position in the ME and religion was the best way to go about that.

Which brings me to your next paragraph in which you say, "was finding himself more and more dependent on fostering religious support to maintain his base of power"...Ain't that what I said???

You seem to be trying to establish some sort of viable Al Qai'da connection to Iraq, but I don't buy that either. Saddam liked a VERY controlled environment and the Al Qai'da people were not his cup o' tea. Osama himself described Saddam as an "infidel".

YEAH...Hitler WAS democratically elected. So was the Moron George Bush. The thing about democracies is that even the GOOFY people get to vote and the definition of "GOOFY" depends on what the "majority" decides upon.
