Someone compared him to Nabokov (whose writing I can't stand) and Kafka (whose writing I like). Apparently he is a descendent of Gogol- so the Kafka resemblance (literary-wise) might be genetic :-)

The sections of Fiasco that deal with the administrations refrain of "Who could have predicted..." led me to go back to SI 2002- before the war. Turns out lots of people predicted, correctly, that the admin was wrong:

Even I didn't remember just how many voices there were raised against this admin- and how many military voices there were.

I certainly hope people learn something from this war, so we are not doomed to repeat the mistakes.
