Well I guess we are just going to disagree on this. Not that I like everything that Bush is doing, but I find it no more objectionable, and sometimes less objectionable, than actions taken in other areas or by other presidents.

Locking up a million people for victimless or mostly victimless crimes seems to me to be more harmful to the republic than waterboarding a terrorist, or holding captured enemy combatants.

I usually respond to the war on drugs posts as a person who has had experience working with addicts..

It was a eye opener...as I never knew how addictive certain drugs could be. Heroin, meth, rock cocaine are particularly odious in that it does not take many trials to become addicted. AND once addicted it is almost impossible to get off the drug. The only way I saw it done was a substitute drug...Methadone.

If one describes a heroin high was the best orgasm you have ever had and then multiply it by 100 you might have some cognizance of why it is so difficult to abstain.

There will always be sources.. I don't know where they are and you probably don't but the RX users do....

It has hit home lately as my sister's son's second wife had a daughter who is now in prison as of this past week. She started on coke... not too dangerous but flirting. Then when I saw her and she is one beautiful gal who was reared in a very strict home.... ( so there is no accounting as to why she went bad. She is only 26) who had her first baby out of wed lock . Her second baby died from a disease she contracted from birds, while working in Jungle Garden..Then she had another baby also out of wed lock and in between committed some rather horrendous crimes for which she was put on probation.( It cost society over one hundred thousand dollars to take care of that ill baby as the mother had no funds
Another ugly reality.)

She blew it when she overdosed a month ago and was actually on the run from the law

If one could know the heart ache this girl has caused her mother as an only child.... and the mother has been an enabler. My sister's son now has her two children to rear and he has three to pay child support for by his first wife.

I have no answers about the war on drugs. It is crazy..
I don't trust at addict although I might love whom they are as a human being. Most were sensitive, artistic and just could not deal with life. They escaped to drugs and would choose to die rather than abandon them. From my experience only.

How does a society fight this with a war... Half the prisons inmates are addicts who have stolen or committed some offense that has gotten them incarcerated... Is this any way to wage a war. Once they are out, bet they go right back to drugs...

Can God save them ? What do you think ?
