That’s all swell and good, rrufff, being above the fray the way you are. The whole conservative/liberal paradigm thing has gotten so destructive, we should just leave it behind and follow everyone of your good-old common sense solutions to the worlds problems starting right now. Unfortunately, We still have 28 months of the Bush administration to look forward to, and there are mid-term elections coming up, and there actually are philosophical and political differences on issues involved that do run down party lines, and it would be remiss of us to NOT discuss those things in favor of suggesting quick fixes that aren’t going to happen.

The main debate and source of difference on this thread is really whether the neo-cons strategy of using censorship, suspension of civil rights and unilateral military invasion are more effective methods for combating terrorism than the use of multilateralism, diplomacy, rule of law and dogged intelligence - such as that which was used to uncover the London based bomb plot recently - alongside necessary military operations, as progressives would prefer; and that is a debate this country sorely needs to be engaged in right now.

What we don’t need is for that debate to be stifled by having the country hoodwinked into believing that the threat from Iran is so urgent that we don't have time to debate it, and that we must invade as soon as possible, ceratinly before the November elections.
