"I believe three or fewer credit inquiries on your credit report do not affect your credit score. If you are applying for a mortgage, all of the credit inquiries during a "two month"? period are counted as one inquiry."

Interesting.. I use Experian to monitor my credit (I had a problem in the past with someone trying to hijack my ID) and now show a 789 score (for experian the max is 830...) I have 4 inquiries, one was for a personal line of credit and 3 are for mortgage inquiries I never used. All 3 of the inquiries came within 2 weeks of each other. (And I believe one inquiry was actually one mortgage agency passing the information to another entity..)

Has anyone ever challenged an inquiry....? I was definitely lied to by one of the mortgage brokers (Who apparently was subsequently fired..) I made it very clear not to do a credit check if they could not beat the current rate for my home loan. They couldn't beat the rate by a full basis point and ran the credit check anyway. (They didn't have the excuse that they didn't know my credit score since I had faxed them a copy of my scores from all three agencies..)
